No gels are needed- the colors are vivid and bright and can be made virtually any shade, including fantastic looking ambers, intense purples and any shade or pastel. Uplights are rated by their "lux" which is their intensity or total "amount" of visible light produced. Many lights on the market top out at 4,000 lux and many are below 1,500.
